Nakshatra Enclave

The brief was simple: build houses where you can hear yourself think. We put the bedrooms in the roof. The pitch is steep enough for a vaulted room, deep enough to kill the traffic, and openable to the sky in the way that only a slope allows.

The tiles are terracotta, made two villages away, and the walls are the same stone we used at Vasudha. There is a consistency to our materials across projects that we like — it means the same craft team works on all of them.

Forty-two houses is not many, and we were told it should be ninety. We do not think we could have made ninety of these.
