Vasudha Courtyards

Gujarat has always built shade before it built walls. Vasudha takes that literally: every home opens onto a shared court of still water, planted with one tree, roofed by a pergola that moves the light across the stone floor through the day.

The plan is only four units deep, which is unusual for a township of this size, and it cost us a third of the land we bought. We were deliberate about it. The result is a place where neighbours actually meet, because there is nowhere else to meet.

Everything you can see from the street was made on site. The stone cladding was cut by masons from the same district the stone came from, over eleven months.
